If you can't already tell by the title of this post, I adore the MŪN Akwi Purifying Cleanser as a first cleanse on days that I'm wearing makeup. I placed my first order from MŪN nearly a year ago and enjoyed the cleanser since the first time I used it but for some reason I've never shared my thoughts on the brand here on the blog.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with MŪN, it's a minimal skincare brand founded by Munemi Imai, a celebrity makeup artist. The skincare line essentially consists of just three products: a cleanser, toner and face oil. MŪN's products are proudly organic, vegan, cruelty free and sustainably sourced. It's one of the few brands I've come across that truly balances an eco-conscious mindset, aesthetically appealing design, uncompromising simplicity and scientific efficacy.
I purchased the Daily Face Essentials Set and my favorite product of the three is Akwi. Per the website:
Akwi is a creamy, oil-based cleanser that lifts impurities, unclogs pores and removes even the most stubborn waterproof makeup without stripping the skin. The pH-balanced formula is a blend of synergistic natural ingredients, including Castor Oil, a soothing cleanser and powerful detoxifier, nutrient-dense Argan Oil and antioxidant Camellia Seed Oil. It leaves your skin cleansed, soft and moisturized. This cleanser has a pH range of 4.7-5.7. Effective for all skin types.
The website clearly lists out all of the ingredients and the purpose each one serves in the formula. As you can see above, the formula looks like a white lotion out of the bottle. I love that this isn't as thick as a traditional cleansing balm and can be dispensed through a sanitary pump bottle. I've never had an issue with the pump getting clogged which is a huge plus. When you massage Akwi into your skin, it transforms into a light balm cleanser that gentle breaks down makeup. Awki has a subdued scent that reminds me of something botanical without being overwhelmingly pungent as some "natural" products can be.
I always use a warm, dampened wash cloth to gently remove the cleanser and my skin is left feeling soft and calm. Though this is an oil-based cleanser, I don't find that it leaves a greasy film on my skin at all. That being said, I always follow up with a gentle second cleanse afterward for good measure.
The full size bottle is 100ml and retails for $60 which is pricey compared to most cleansers on the market. But taking into account the eco-friendly factors and the fact that MŪN is an independent small business, this price point is par for the course. There's a smaller 15ml travel size that goes for $14 if you want to try it out before committing to the full size. MŪN also does a really great loyalty program where you can earn points by following the brand on social media, writing product reviews and referring friends. You can get 20% off your purchase by using my referral link here.
I'm honestly surprised that MŪN's Akwi Purifying Cleanser isn't a cult favorite by now. It's a stellar makeup remover and one that I think any skin type can benefit from. I'm excited to see if the brand expands their range because I'd definitely be on board to try more from the brand!
